Dean of Student Engagement, Lawrence Virtual School

 

Reports to:          Building Principal

 

Job Goals:           

Supports the Building Principal in developing, implementing, and evaluating virtual student attendance and engagement. The dean of engagement will provide strategic direction in implementing a systematic data-driven process of improvement in student engagement. Collaborates in developing and implementing building-level professional development initiatives aligned to the building school improvement plan.  Offers support and mentoring to teachers, cultivating their instructional skills in alignment with the goals set forth in the USD497 District Strategic Plan. The successful candidate will have the skills necessary to support the Building Principal in closing the achievement and opportunity gaps for traditionally underserved students, ensuring equity for all students.  

 

Qualification: 

  • Current Kansas teaching licensure
  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ successful experience as a classroom teacher
  • Successful experience in communicating with parents and students
  • Demonstrated effective outcomes with student discipline
  • Excellent oral and written skills

 

Performance and Responsibilities:

  • Designs and implements a program designed to increase student engagement at Lawrence Virtual School
  • Works with Students, Families, and Teachers to address specific and systemic barriers to engagement and success at Lawrence Virtual School.
  • Facilitates professional development for staff with attention to developing classroom management skills to promote engagement in the learning environment of each classroom.
  • Collaborates with the building principal to facilitate the implementation of a comprehensive 3-tiered support system to meet all students' social and, emotional, behavioral, and academic needs.
  • Works with teachers to develop and implement student behavioral interventions for attendance/engagement issues, addressing the needs of all students and developing and enhancing a supportive learning environment.
  • Assists in developing building procedures for student engagement and behavior to improve learning opportunities for all students.
  • Monitors student attendance and behavior to enhance individual students’ learning.
  • Maintains a current knowledge base in high-yield and evidence-based instructional strategies, culturally relevant teaching, technology integration, and other district initiatives to support effective instructional practices.
  • Responds in a timely manner to parent and community requests to foster transparent communication and community engagement.
  • Attends professional development training opportunities to stay informed and enhance professional knowledge.
  • Performs other duties as directed by the Principal, Superintendent, or Superintendent’s designee to contribute to the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the educational leadership role.

  • Possess composition skills suitable for producing written communication for a variety of readers
  • Ability to quickly analyze a situation and provide prompt advice
  • Ability to perform job responsibilities using appropriate software on district computer system and communication equipment
  • Ability to manage job responsibilities while meeting established deadlines
  • Ability to work constructively and cooperatively with others
  • Travel as needed
  • Demonstrate positive attitudes toward the education profession and maintain positive relationships with district employees

Terms of Employment: This position is dependent on the availability of School Improvement Grant funding. 

 

The responsibilities outlined in the position description may be subject to change at the discretion of the superintendent/designee.

 

Location:     ESC

 

Evaluation:     Evaluated annually by the Principal based upon the job description and principles of effective leadership.

 

Length of Contract:     Certified contract with 20 additional days

 

Salary Range:     Certified salary schedule
