This position is an additional assignment for a current Lawrence Public Schools certified staff member. External candidates will not be considered.
TITLE: Instructional Content Mentor-Science (Additional Assignment)
Reports to: Building Principal
Job Goal: The Instructional Content Mentor will maintain their regular teaching assignment while providing direct support to mentees and other school staff for ongoing improvement of teaching and learning programs focused on district goals through coaching, modeling, mentoring and collaboration.
Qualifications:
- Current Kansas Teaching License (content-specific endorsement preferred)
- Minimum of 3 years experience in teaching required
- Experience teaching Lawrence Public Schools curriculum preferred.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Builds relationships with content mentor team, staff and building administrators
- Mentors and supports new and veteran staff members
- Maintains a confidential, collegial relationship with all staff
- Differentiates teacher support based on individual and building needs
- Provides reflective feedback to teachers
- Communicates effectively the district’s goals to a variety of stakeholders
- Models effective instructional strategies and interventions
- Maintains classroom space and balance providing support to staff and students.
Individual Functions
- Aligns instruction and assessment with district curriculum and goals
- Supports staff in analyzing and translating data into meaningful instructional practices
- Analyzes the success of instructional strategies and materials
- Provides support to administrators during professional development days
- Collaboratively identifies student and teacher needs and proposes possible interventions
- Co-plans and/or models lessons that emphasize effective instructional strategies
- Encourages participation in and reflection on professional growth activities
- Serves as a resource, collaborative problem-solver, and liaison to staff
Critical Skills:
- Possess and maintain appropriate licensure in the state of Kansas
- Ability to speak clearly to various groups expressing ideas in a logical manner
- Possess composition skills suitable for producing written communication for a variety of readers
- Ability to respond to information requests in a courteous, timely and helpful manner
- Ability to manage job responsibilities while meeting established deadlines.
- Ability to work constructively and cooperatively with others
- Ability to maintain professionalism and use conflict resolution techniques

Location: Lawrence High School or Free State High School, as assigned
Evaluation: Evaluated annually by Building Principal
Length of Contract: 6 additional days added to certified contract
Salary Range: 6 additional days at daily rate based on certified salary schedule |
