Purpose Statement:
The job of Student Support Specialist is done for the purpose/s of assisting with the delivery of operational & administrative services that support students’ behavioral, academic, and social-emotional achievement. Key responsibilities include implementing evidence-based behavior strategies, collaborating with staff and families to address student needs, supporting campus and building activities and well-being, and connecting students and families with supportive community resources.
This Job reports to Assigned Supervisor
Essential Functions
- Assists in developing procedures and training materials for the purpose of supporting district staff working with students with academic and behavioral needs.
- Communicates and connects with community members and resources for the purpose of providing additional support and care for students and families.
- Confers with teachers/specialists and participates in team meetings for the purpose of developing and implementing intervention plans and analyze progress.
- Follows and implements school policies, behavior expectations, and procedures for the purpose of providing consistent approaches to academic and behavior matrices and plans.
- Implements evidence-based behavioral strategies for the purpose of promoting student self-regulation.
- Implements and supports academic instruction and behavioral plans, as assigned for the purpose of assisting in meeting student needs and providing a consistent and safe environment.
- Instructs students, individually or in groups, for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforce academic and behavioral concepts.
- Maintains classroom equipment, work area, and student files/records for the purpose of ensuring availability of items and/or providing reliable information.
- Monitors student behavior during and between assigned periods (e.g. lunch room, classrooms with substitutes, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring student compliance with established regulations and maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
- Offers targeted support to students with identified behavioral and/or academic needs for the purpose of ensuring student progress and support.
- Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information, developing knowledge required to perform job functions and meet district objectives.
- Participates in and maintains training/certification for crisis management, restorative practices, and other applicable areas (e.g. emergency safety interventions, etc.) for the purpose of providing supportive, safe, and appropriate support to students.
- Prepares documentation for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
- Provides outreach and support to parents/guardians for the purpose of promoting positive school/family relationships and enhancing student learning.
- Refers incidents to appropriate site personnel (e.g. injuries, altercations, suspicious activities, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring follow-up per administrative guidelines.
- Regularly collaborates with staff to assess student progress, plan individual or group curriculum, and evaluate instructional materials, etc. for the purpose of ensuring student academic and behavioral progress.
- Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of addressing immediate safety concerns.
- Reviews and coordinates student attendance and truancy plans for the purpose of supporting equitable access to the learning environment.
- Supports and monitors the discipline referral information for the purpose of providing timely data to administration, staff, and families, as applicable.
- Uses building CI3T process to support students' academic, social and behaviors for the purpose of ensuring student academic success.
Other Functions
- Assists other personnel as required for the purpose of supporting them in completing their work activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the building.

Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; operating within a defined budget. Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 15% sitting, 45% walking, 40% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free environment.
Experience Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired. Experience providing student/family support services in education or social service settings; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience preferred.
Education Targeted, job related education with study in job-related area.
