Purpose Statement

The job of Paraeducator - School Psychologist is done for the purpose(s) of providing support to assigned School Psychologist(s), ensuring compliance with special education procedural requirements, and providing information and/or direction as may be requested.

 

Essential Functions

• Assist the school psychologist in maintaining procedural compliance including applicable timeline dates for IEP's for the purpose of meeting local, state, and federal regulations.
• Complete SPED paperwork utilizing the district's IEP software system for the purpose of maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.
• Confers with teachers/specialists and participates in team meetings for the purpose of assisting the school psychologist in the special education process.
• Gather assessment data (e.g. record reviews and observations, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining special education evaluations.
• Maintains student files/records as appropriate for the purpose of documenting activities and/or providing reliable information.
• Participates in in-service workshops and training for the purpose of receiving and/or conveying information related to job functions.
• Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. copying, updating IEP documents, printing, student records, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the school psychologist, ensuring up-to-date reference trail and/or providing necessary records/materials.
• Prepares written materials for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information.
• Schedule meeting(s) for the school psychologist with parents and/or school staff for the purpose of arranging required Evaluation and Reevaluation meetings.
• Summarize, record, and distribute special education meeting notes for the purpose of maintaining a compilation of discussions and decisions from meetings.

Other Functions

• Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment; preparing and maintaining accurate records; using pertintent software applications.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions.  Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: concepts of grammar and punctuation; office software, business telephone etiquette.

ABILITY is required to schedule activities; gather and/or collate data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with similar types of data; and utilize job-related equipment. Some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: maintaining confidentiality; communicating with diverse groups; adapting to changing work priorities; meeting deadlines and schedules; working with detailed information/data; working as part of a team; establishing effective working relationships; adhere to district policies; and regular attendance except when allowed leave.

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to impact the organization’s services.

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling,  some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 35% sitting, 35% walking, and 30% standing.  The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free environment.

Experience      Job related experience is desired.

Education        Targeted, job related education with study in job-related area.

Equivalency    High School Diploma/GED

Equivalency    Paraeducators working in a Title I building (or district wide), REQUIRE a minimum of 48 college credit hours, OR the successful completion of a state approved Paraeducator Assessment.
