Purpose Statement
The job of Support Technician is done for the purpose/s of maintaining computer and network equipment in a safe and functional operating condition; meeting the technology needs of the district; documenting information; and resolving immediate operational and/or safety concerns.
Essential Functions
- Assesses malfunctions of hardware and/or software applications for the purpose of determining appropriate actions to maintain computer and network operations.
- Attends meetings as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
- Conducts on site, spontaneous trainings for staff and students for the purpose of improving the utilization of technology in the classroom.
- Coordinates with other staff for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently.
- Inspects computer and network equipment requiring specialized computer repair and trouble shooting skills for the purpose of identifying and verifying repair needs.
- Installs computer hardware, peripherals, application software and network equipment requiring specialized computer and network skills (e.g. wiring, rack installation, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining safe and effective District and site operation including classrooms, library and computer labs.
- Plans installation of computers and network equipment for the purpose of meeting the technology needs of the district.
- Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. work orders, reports, inventory control, procedures, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
- Procures equipment, supplies and materials for the purpose of maintaining availability of required items and completing jobs efficiently.
- Provides backup assistance to the IT Help Desk Support Specialist for the purpose of providing district wide technical support without interruption.
- Repairs computers, peripherals, network equipment and software, requiring specialized computer and electronics repair skills for the purpose of maintaining computer and network equipment in a safe and functional condition.
- Responds to inquiries for the purpose of solving problems, providing information and/or direction as may be required.
- Serves as a point of contact for device vendors when assessing and troubleshooting issues with technology in the classroom for the purpose of expediting district technology deployments and solutions.
- Serves as a mentor for technology internship programs throughout the district for the purpose of providing additional educational resources for secondary students.
- Transports various items (e.g. equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of providing materials at job site and/or returning equipment for repair.
- Upgrades computers, peripherals and software applications (e.g. installation, testing, configuration, etc.) for the purpose of meeting the computer processing needs of the users.
Other Functions
- Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating equipment required by profession or trade; utilizing pertinent computer applications; and planning and managing projects.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: computer hardware and software, utilizing drills and saws.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather and/or collate data; and consider a wide variety of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and utilize equipment under a variety of conditions for multiple purposes. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with similar types of data; and utilize a wide variety of types of job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is significant. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work environment and/or priorities; adhering to safety practices; working with constant and sustained interruptions; working within time constraints and occasional evening and weekend hours; adhering to district policies; and regular attendance except when taking approved leave.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; providing information and/or advising others; operating within a defined budget. Utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the organization’s services.
Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 15% sitting, 45% walking, and 40% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a clean atmosphere.
Experience Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
Education Targeted, job related education with study in job-related area.
